This page explains what mayorsther.com collects, why, and what you can ask for. It describes what the site actually does rather than what websites usually say they do.
Who runs this site
This site is run by Authoress Mayorsther. For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your data, write to hello@mayorsther.com.
If you only read the site
You can read the home page, the book pages, the library and the first chapter of each book without an account and without giving anything. No analytics service runs here. There is no Google Analytics and no Facebook pixel. The contact and sign up forms carry a spam check that runs on this site itself and sends nothing to anyone else.
If you create a reader account
Chapters after the first need a free account. Creating one stores:
- Your email address, which is also your username
- Your password, stored only as a one way hash, never as text anyone can read
- The reader name you choose, which is the name shown on your comments
Your email address is never shown publicly anywhere on the site.
What the site records while you read
This is the part most privacy pages leave out, so it is set out plainly.
- Which chapters you open. For signed in readers the site records the chapter, when you first opened it, when you last opened it, and how many times. It is how Mayorsther sees which chapters are being read.
- Chapters you love. Which chapters you marked, and when.
- Comments. Your comment, your reader name and the time. WordPress also records the IP address a comment was posted from.
- Copying from a chapter. If text is copied from a chapter page, the site records that it happened, how much was copied, a short excerpt, and the IP address and browser it came from. This exists because the books are the author’s livelihood and chapters have been copied and reposted elsewhere. It applies to signed in readers only.
Your address is used to send account mail, such as a password reset, and occasional news about new books and chapters. Mail is sent through the site’s own mailbox at Hostinger. Every message about new releases carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops those without closing your account or affecting password resets.
Cookies
The site sets a cookie when you sign in, which is what keeps you signed in, and WordPress may store your name in your browser so the comment form remembers it. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Other companies involved
- Hostinger hosts the site and carries its email, so data lives on their servers.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces. Loading a font means your browser contacts Google, which sees your IP address.
- Gravatar, run by Automattic, may be contacted to show a comment avatar.
- Hostinger Reach, a Hostinger marketing tool, loads a small script on every page, which means your browser contacts Hostinger and it sees your IP address.
Nothing is sold, rented, or passed to advertisers. There are no advertisers.
How long things are kept
Account details, comments and reading records are kept while your account exists. Copy records are kept for a limited period and then deleted automatically. If you close your account, your personal details are removed; comments may remain with the reader name attached unless you ask for those to go too.
What you can ask for
Write to hello@mayorsther.com and you can ask to:
- See a copy of what the site holds about you
- Correct anything wrong
- Have your account and personal details deleted
- Stop receiving email, which you can also do from any unsubscribe link
Requests are answered within a month. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
These books are written for adults and the site is not intended for children under 16. Accounts are not knowingly created for children, and if one is found it is removed.
